With broken hearts, the Nega and extended families regret to announce the passing of Carmel Nega at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital at the age of 92. She was the daughter of Clement and Elizabeth (Tuttle) Verge and one of six siblings.

Carmel worked at many jobs before and after marriage but most know her from the “Bus Stop Shop” where she worked over twenty years and met everyone with a smile.

She grew up with a love of the ocean especially Dominion Beach where she swam, ate lunch and waited for her dad to come home from the New Waterford mines. Widowed young, she turned her life into not only belonging to St. Paul’s Church (President of the Golden Circle, and Meals on wheels) but to social groups. She had a great circle of friends as well as family.

Vacations took her to the U.S., England, Ontario and western Canada to visit family and see the sites. She especially liked Niagara Falls and the Rockies.

Carmel is survived by her brothers Albert (Barbara) Ont., David (Helgard) B.C., and their families. Sons; Darrel-Jayce (Crystal), Adam (Leah)- Ben and Megan, daughters; Debbie- Angela (Lorne) Langley, Jason (Michelle) Dean and Terri (Warren) MacNeil, Sharon Woodford- Rob, Brett and Heather, Jocelyn (Dave) Nega- Dannalyn (Dale), MacKenzie (Susanna) and Kris. Also, grandmother to Curtis, Andrea and Chantelle (Eddy) and great-grandmother to Sidney, Grace, Aaron, William, Isaac, Jesse, Colton, Logan and Erik. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and cousins across Canada.

Preceded by parents, her husband Bill, brother Harris, sisters Effie and Martha, in-laws Adam and Maggie (Dunlop) Nega, and brothers-in-law George Marshall and Bill MacLean. Sister-in-law Thelma MacKenzie, son Butch, daughters-in-law Mary and Sharon as well as son-in-law Dean.

Many thanks to the special staff of New Waterford Home Care and to the medical staff who aided her in her final days. Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
