On December 19, 2023, Brenda Ivy McKenzie passed away after a brief illness.
She had been undergoing dialysis for the last few months and suffered from
diabetes and its complications for the last 30-years. Brenda was born in New
Waterford on May 29, 1942, to Gordon Thomas Kelly and Betty Gertrude Kelly
(nee Tatlock).
Ma was many things to many people: friend, daughter, aunt, grandmother, sister
to Sharon, Linda, Joy, Jimmy, and Keith, mother to Colleen, Norma, Gordie,
Kevin, and Kelly.
She was predeceased by many family and friends. Growing up, she enjoyed our
family gatherings wherever they happened. These were the times she treasured
most. ‘It’s like feeding an army,’ she’d say but she loved every minute of it and
had a hard time accepting compliments, even about her potato salad. She was
proud of the home she created; loved taking care of her property to watch life
around her flourish. She found peace in shovelling snow at 3 a.m. when the
world had quieted down, a new snowfall making the world clean and beautiful.
By her request, there will be no visitation or service. Cremation has taken
place under the guidance of Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
A special Thank You to the RNs, LPNs, and Ward Clerks on Third Floor West,
Glace Bay Hospital for their kindness and professional care.
If you knew her and want to show/voice your condolences, please contribute to
a charity of your choice, do a friendly deed, help someone in need, give your
time to someone who not only needs it but who will cherish it, hug your loved
ones, spoil your pets, eat too much, love lots and keep regrets at bay and,
simply, enjoy your life to the fullest.
