It is with greatest sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Ann Marie MacKinnon (Gilmet, née MacNeil) on Sunday, 9th of February.. Ann Marie was born on February 13, 1950, to Micky (Micheal) MacNeil and Ann Veronica (Anna) Murphy MacNeil. She is predeceased by her parents and brothers Donnie MacNeil (Calgary) and Michael MacNeil (Sydney). She was also predeceased by the love of her life Clifford MacKinnon . She leaves behind daughters Jade (Dennis) Gilmet-Gillis (Sydney) and Karla Gilmet (Glace Bay) and their father Randy GIlmet. She also leaves behind neices Lee MacNeil and Shannon MacNeil as well as nephew Derrick MacNeil . Ann Marie was close to many of her cousins, especially Betty Morrison and Betty Campbell and sisters-in-law Shirley MacNeil and Wanda Chisholm whom she Considered sisters and great friends. She will be missed by all that knew her especially her companion Kenny Gardner who’s friendship had made her very happy.
Ann Marie had a love of friends, family and travel. She loved visiting Cuba and other Southern Islands. She cherished many memories of these trips with her friends and family. Ann Marie also loved Cape Breton culture and music and had a close connection to her mother’s birthplace Washabuck. She cherished memories of “Grandmother’s house” and the shores of Washabuck.
Ann Marie, a graduate of St. Michael’s High School in Glace Bay (1969), had been a long time employee of Wilson’s Home Hardware in Sydney and was known by many. She retired a number of years ago but still considered many friends. Funeral service will take place 10:00 am Saturday, February 15, 2020 at St. Anne's Roman Catholic Church, 695 Main Street Glace Bay.
