With much sadness and grateful hearts for a life well lived, we the children of Alvira, announce her passing on Monday March 13, 2023, at Glace Bay Hospital. Born April 15 1923 to the late William and Sadie (Panton) Simmons of Donkin and Glace Bay. Mom was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She is survived by sons William F. 'Bill' (Jean) MacDonald, Halifax, Daniel A. 'Dan' (Theresa) MacDonald, Glace Bay, and daughter Virginia 'Ginny' (Les) Locke, Glace Bay, Grandchildren who she cherished, Brad Locke, Glace Bay, Justin (Dawn) MacDonald, Edmonton, Stacey (Chris) Blois, Glace Bay, Great-Grandchildren Samantha (Adam) Benham, Glace Bay, Aiden & Ava MacDonald, Edmonton, Zoe MacNeil-Locke, Sydney, and Great-Great Grandmother to Wyatt Benham. mom is survived by many nieces and nephews in Ontario, Saskatchewan and Glace Bay, who cherished their Aunt Vi.
Besides her parents mom is predeceased by her loving husband Arch, her brothers; Wesley (late Bea) Simmons and Harvey (late Neila) Simmons, sisters; Dorothy (late Jack) Russell, Harriett (late Roy) Cameron, Joyce (late Bill) Stratton, and infant sister Annie Laurie.
Mom was an adherent of Epworth United Church, she bowled and skated into her 80's, mom worked at MacKeigans's Bakery, Glace Bay as well as Toby's & Ian's Clothing Store from where she retired.
At Mom's request there will be no visitation or service. Cremation has taken place, She will be laid to rest in a private family service next to her late husband, Arch in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens at a later date.
