Obituary

It is with profound sadness that the family of Alexander (Sandy) MacMullin announce his sudden passing on August 20, 2026, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital in Sydney, Nova Scotia, from complications related to COPD pneumonia. He was born on February 19, 1953 to Joseph and Margaret (nee MacMullin) MacMullin of Beaver Cove, Cape Breton.

Sandy leaves behind a lifetime of stories, projects, and opinions. As a jack of all trades, Sandy could turn his hand to almost anything. He was always willing to lend a hand - whether you asked for one or not - and there was a good chance he would have a strong opinion about how to do the job. His dry wit kept those around him entertained, and his strong opinions ensured that there was rarely any confusion about where he stood. He enjoyed the simple things in life, especially a good home-cooked meal. However, he believed every salad could be ruined by including cucumbers.

Sandy had a soft spot for cats and a heart big enough to take in every stray that crossed his path. He made sure they were fed and cared for because for him his cats came first.

Sandy leaves behind family, friends, and many people who are grateful for the help he gave, the laughs he provided, and the life lessons - solicited or otherwise - he shared.

Sandy will be lovingly remembered by his siblings - Sally Rudderham, Joey (Sandra), Delores (Kevin) MacIntyre, Danette (Guy) Chapados, Mississauga, Ontario, Francis (Janet), sister-in-law, Lorraine (Lori) MacMullin, and his many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. Special mention to his friend Joanne.

Sandy was preceded in death by his parents, sister and brother-in-law - Mary and Donald MacEachern, brother James (Jimmy) MacMullin, brother-in-law Rowe Rudderham and nephew Joseph Allan Chapados.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at 11am on Thursday September 3, 2026 with a funeral service to follow at 12 noon at St. Andrew’s Church in Boisdale with Father Ray Huntley officiating. A reception will follow at the Boisdale Fire Hall after the funeral. In lieu of flowers donations to the SPCA would be appreciated.

May his soul rest in peace, and perpetual light shine upon him.
