Evelyn Stockley

May 4, 1942 — December 25, 2021

It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our Mom, Evelyn Ann Stockley (Bradley). Mom passed peacefully under the care of the wonderful staff at Victoria County Memorial Hospital on Saturday, December 25 th with family by her side.

Mom was born in Halifax on May 4, 1942, and was the eldest of four children to the late James Robert
(Bob) and Jean Lillian (Roberts) Bradley. They lived in Tangier for a short time before moving to Baddeck. Mom worked at the Thistledown, Inverary Inn and Lynnwood but loved her work as a care giver (especially with Christine Fownes (Gicco)). She was a proud member of the St. Peter’s St. John’s Anglican Church and was involved in the ACW (Anglican Church Women), as well as a volunteer at Alderwood.

Mom’s greatest gifts were her children, grand-children and great-grandchildren. She loved each of us
unconditionally and with all her heart. She enjoyed keeping tabs on us through Facebook. Her quick wit and humor shone through in her comments and texts.

Her hands were never idle – Mom was an avid knitter (best sock maker EVER), loved cross stitching, sewing, crochet and puzzles - made quilts, tole painted – she had a magic touch to everything she did. Mom always said that if you want to keep a sharp mind, use it – and that she did. She was always reading and was Queen of the crosswords. If stuck, you just needed to call – without hesitation, she knew the answer! A smart cookie, and a memory like an elephant !

A generous, kind soul, and patience of a saint, Mom’s resilience, strength and unwavering faith brought her through many obstacles. Her life was not an easy one, but her glass was always half full – she survived a lot in her almost 80 years - including battling cancer twice, strokes, heart attacks and the loss of two children – yet, she was never jaded, always reminding us to be kind, be strong and be good.

Mom was quietly understated – she loved to have a good time, was adventurous and a whole lot of fun – we will all miss that infectious giggle. She started her solo flying adventures in her late 60’s to mid 70’s, travelling to Toronto and Edmonton visiting her daughters getting up at 4am for a shuttle to the Halifax airport - ready, willing and kind of ‘able’ but she did it. She was fearless and determined.

Mom is predeceased by her parents, Bob & Jean, daughter Jean, son, Brad, brother Brian, sister-in-law,
Anne and father of her children, Roy. She leaves behind her daughters, Iris (Bobby), Brenda (Jeff), Cathy (Don), son Bruce (Danielle), son-in-law Kim, brothers, Jim (Patsy) and Terry (Wendy) along with her sister-in-law, Elaine, grandchildren, James, Jacqueline, Jason, Justin, Shawn, Matthew, Ashley and Gregory, Great-grandchildren, Janaya, Jayden, Navaeh, Everly, Abigail, William, Duncan, Quentin and Carson, best friend/Aunt, Annie, along with special friends Joanne, Evelyn, Kaye, Joyce and the girls at Lakeview Manor.

Cremation has taken place under the compassionate care of Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.  A family service will take place at a later date.  A great deal of gratitude goes out to the Victoria County Palliative Care Team, Dr. John Ritter, and Paulette Levin, as well as to the caring staff at Victoria County Memorial Hospital - we are forever grateful for taking such great care of Mom.   If you wish, memorial donations can be made to Victoria County Palliative Care or Victoria County Memorial Hospital.

Mother

To one who bears the sweetest name
and adds a lustre to the same,
Who shares my joys, who cheers when sad,
The greatest friend I ever had,
Long life to her, for there is no other
Who can take the place of my dear Mother
